Packt Publishing has anounced the winners in the 2008 Most Promising Open Source CMS category of their annual competition. Silverstripe and CMS Made Simple took home first and second place. We are happy to report that MiaCMS came in 3rd place overall tied with another terrific Content Management System named ImpressCMS. We wanted to take a moment and say thank you to the community that helped us achieve this wonderful award. MiaCMS is still less than 1 year old and we are delighted to see the open source community embracing it this quickly. The team is working very hard on the project and it is times like these that make it worth all the effort. Thanks again and we look forward to a very bright future for the project and a close partnership with our community.
We would also like to thank Packt Publishing for holding this important competition, the prize money that have awarded the project, and their support of the open source movement in general. The MiaCMS team will be reinvesting all of our prize money right back into the project itself.
Last, but not least the team would alot like to extend our congratulations to our very own Chad Auld for being named in Packt Publishing's 2008 list of "Most Valued People from Open Source Content Management Systems".

Well it is time for another project update. We have made some very exciting progress over the last few months and it is time to spread the word. Several months ago the team set out to build the next maintenance release, 4.6.6, to fix minor issues and continue building up security. At the same the 4.6.6 maintenance release was being developed the team was also hard at work on the next minor (but in reality fairly major) release. After a while it because obvious that we should just focus our efforts on the minor release since it was progressing so well.
Well I'm happy to report the next minor release is now just around the corner. Instead of doing a 4.6.6 release we have rolled those fixes right into the next minor release which will be 4.8. Why not 4.7? Well it really boils down to bad luck.. Call us superstitious. We were hard at work on the Mambo 4.7 release when we felt the MiaCMS fork was the only way to move the project forward. Since we actually built the majority of the features planned for Mambo 4.7 anyway we ended up taking 90% of them and re-implementing them in MiaCMS 4.6.4 which was based on Mambo 4.6.3. So one could argue we've been running on 4.7 plus more all this time. Anyway, so as not to create more confusion with the past we will call this what is really should be... version 4.8.
OK so on to the good part... what's changed? In version 4.8 we will be introducing OpenID 1 & 2 support, content versioning, general bug fixes, and a brand new JavaScript architecture. Rather than detail it all here I have put up an early set of release notes which you can find here - http://docs.miacms.org/wikka.php?wakka=ReleaseNotes48. We aim to release the first beta next week or shortly thereafter. The team has worked tremendously hard on it and we are excited to let you give it a spin.
That's it for now. Stay tuned for the beta release. We look forward to your valuable feedback. If you like what you see and have not voted yet in the Packt Pub Open Source CMS awards don't forget MiaCMS is up for "Most Promising Open Source CMS". We'd love your support, vote for us here.
We recently wrapped up a presentation about MiaCMS for the Thailand Open Source Festival 2008 as well. It talks about the past, present, and future of MiaCMS. You can view it below.
