MiaCMS used MyISAM which is the default MySQL storage engine.  If you are looking to make use of transactions then you'll need InnoDB.  MiaCMS is not highly transactional in nature and thus MyISAM is typically fine.  Some tables could potentially benefit from InnoDB like the users table, but it really depends on your individual circumstances, volume, server configuration, etc.
