Topic: Thinking of using miaCMS, but...

Hey all,
Been looking around the web for a good CMS, that would let my friends and I set up something of a Review site, where we can just goof off on.
We had recently attempted to use ModX, but I can't begin to explain to you the frustration that that CMS has given us.

What we have been attempting to do is make a website where we would have different sections to the site, e.g. Games, Technology, Sports, Automotive, etc. etc. and have it setup where, when you hover over one of those links, your given the categories that go with that section, so for Sports as an example, if you put your mouse over the word sports, a drop down box will appear giving you a list of choices. You could click on Sports and be given all news in the sports section, or choose Football, for all football articles, or baseball for all baseball articles, etc. And each section would be independent of each other, and from the Home Page, which we would use to post site wide news, like "Here's what's happening in the sports section... etc."

Aside from that, i'm also looking for a uniform, site wide login for users, so they can leave comments, as well as a news program that shows author names (ModX did not do that...), as well as admins.

We know that there will be coding involved however, I myself wanna avoid having to make a website from scratch and have it just fall apart due to crappy coding skills, haha, but what I am trying to find out is if miaCMS could do what we need? I've read as much as I can, and using the demo can only go so far... I apologize for asking this, but I hate to have to download it, install it, set it all up and then realize that it won't work for what we need, haha... Done that twice already, not looking forward to reading lines of code, setting up a template for another CMS that we find out doesn't work for what we need it too!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Thinking of using miaCMS, but...

In a nutshell... yes MiaCMS allows you to organize content into sections and categories and then browse it the same way.  You can build menu links to section, categories, or directly to articles.  You can also have static content which does not belong to a section/category.  There are a number of different menu output types within the system.  You can get a list of all the sections and their subcategories from the menu system (the dynamic tree type menu you described you'll have to build, but it can be done and the menu system will give you the data you need).  MiaCMS has a native login system and site search,  Hope that helps.

Re: Thinking of using miaCMS, but...

Yes, that is almost exactly what I need, haha.
I've actually installed it and began playing around with it, and it is definitely perfect, but the one problem I seem to be having is getting Drop Down menus, like for FAQ, I see that it has three children, but do I have to edit the template itself to get them to be shown when you mouse over FAQ, or is it possible to jsut do that in the module?

Re: Thinking of using miaCMS, but...

The module will output the data you need.  I'd handle the rest in the template.
